Spider, Butterfly & little Flower

We have just been to this terms theme day for Music. The theme was insects and creepy crawlies. If you can't figure it out (what's wrong with you!) Lachie's a spider, Lily's a butterfly and Eden's a little flower that all the bugs like...
Here's some of my favourite pics...
Yes, another chance for me to make a cake! I quite like making these butterfly cakes (and the kids all liked eating it!) There was plenty to share with all the kids and adults too.

Of course, they're all now in bed, still catching up after the weekend I assume!

Journey of the Cross and Icon

It might not mean much to you, but you'll have to believe me - this is a big deal to Catholics!
The Cross and Icon (picture of Mary and baby Jesus) have been travelling round the world since about 1983 when Pope John Paul II gifted them to the youth of the world. This is their first visit to NZ and CHB were lucky enough to get some special time with them (even if it was the middle of the night!).
We started with a service and a cuppa at Kopua at 1.30am meeting the Palmy North contingency, then travelled in convoy to Waipuk where we walked with the cross the length of town to the green patch for some "singing in the rain" with a bonfire. Here's Mike keeping the guitar dry...
Lachie's been so excited about this all week. We even made him a little cross he could carry by himself. Of course being the time it is, we are all wearing hundreds of layers! Lily could hardly move, but she was toasty!
We then drove to Waipawa where we again walked the length of the town and had more reflection near the clock tower, then hot soup and snacks before some of us carried on to Havelock for handover. Mike and Lily left us here and went to get some sleep (Mike had just finished nightshift at 1am!)
We walked from halfway up Te Mata Peak for a service at the top awaiting sunrise. Here's Lachie and Hamish (youngest of 8 of our "adopted" family, the Grevatt's) about to walk up Te Mata Peak.

And Lachie and Hamish had a go at "carrying" the cross too.
It was very cold up there, running was the best option! Lachie also got a bit of help from Katie.

Down below Lachie is the cross, nearly 4m tall (and very heavy), at least 100 people made the trip up the hill. Not quite sunrise here...
It was freezing (I've said that already!) but the sunrise was truly magical as we started walking down again.
Lachie took the easy way down, picking big kids over his freezing Mum who just wanted to keep moving!
We then went to St. John's College for Mass and breakfast (it's now about 8am). Lachie got to touch the cross again (part of the big deal as it's been touched by hundreds of millions of people throughout the world...)
Breakfast consisted of bacon and egg rolls (minus the egg for me thanks!) before Mike woke up and came and got us about 11.30am. Lachie hadn't slept since 11 the night before, I hadn't slept at all. I did a marathon 39 hours without sleep (been a long time since I did an "all-nighter") and had a great sleep last night to make up for it.
If you're wondering where Eden was in all of this, I decided late Friday night that the weather wasn't going to be good for her cold, so she had a holiday at Nannie and Grand-da's, and kept them awake with her singing throughout the night.
The Cross and Icon head to Hamilton today then onto Auckland before heading to Australia to travel around in preparation for World Youth Day in Sydney next July. We're going ("youth" is up to 35 in this instance!). For more info check our NZ website www.worldyouthday.org.nz

Cake Stall

I was baking all last week for the Kindy Rummage Sale and cake stall, and this week it was for the Parents Centre cake stall in town. Here's Sandra and Sharon, who have also been baking all week...

We also have a raffle going at the moment, $2 ticket or 3 for $5 - this Limited Edition Ford Pedal Car, donated by Ruahine Motors - let me know if you want a ticket...it will be drawn at our Trivia Nite on August 25th (and I can book you a table for that too if you're keen!)

Another Kindy Trip

Lachie and I went on another Kindy trip to Napier. Yes, it was Mike's turn but it was to see a show by Capital E so he passed...Songs of the Sea, a show with 4 people and some puppets was pretty cool - kept all the kids focused and engaged the whole time. After the show we went to the park on the Marine Parade for Fish and Chips for lunch.
Action shots from the park...
Another great day! Not as exhausting as the Aquarium/Marineland trip this time! Where are we going next time? Oh right, it's Mike's turn!

Eden's new tricks

Eden has crawling almost mastered, but she's already moved on to climbing stairs!

Lachie and Lily built a "tent" and Eden couldn't wait to get in!

Lachie, Lily and Eden had a crawling race...
Stairs last night was too easy, so today she started standing up!

And now with two bottom teeth, so cute!

Rain means MUD!

Much to the delight of many friends who are farmers, we've had a bit of rain lately...it's meant we've moved the dryer inside (to the newly renovated laundry!), but at least the kids can get some enjoyment out of what's happening to the backyard!
This is before...

And during...

Lily couldn't take her eyes off the mud, and the mud got everywhere, even her eyes!
Daddy's attempt to not have to clean up too much, didn't work so well!
But now that that's out of their systems, shoes are staying remarkably clean as they avoid puddles...for now!

Eden's First Tooth

Eden got her first tooth a few weeks ago, not cross-cut like the Lachie and Lily...a bottom centre one!

TRIED to get a photo off it, so at least pretend you can see it! (She shows it off all the time - she's always smiling!)

Woodville Park

I needed a shopping day in Palmy. Mike needed a rest stop in Woodville and we found a park! Didn't matter to the kids at all that it was freezing and raining!
(Dropped Mike off at work on our way home)
I had to unload all the goodies on my own!

Anderson Park

We met Ella for a bike ride at Anderson Park on Queen's Birthday Monday.
