Since Christmas

Taking down the Christmas decorations, actually a couple of days later than the usual Boxing Day de-Christmasing tradition...althoguh judging by the singing that's happening, I dont' think we will completely de-Christmas the girls any time soon!
Our own strawberry patch is suffering from last summers' pregnancy (mine, not the gardens, but I was quite useless last summer - except for deck building that is!) but Mr Mills down the road has GREAT spray-free strawberries, and Cooper's pretty impressed!
Cooper's really good at getting wherever he wants to get...eventually, but still by going backwards and rolling, however, no-one's exactly sure how THIS happened! Actaully it now seems he may have found the forward gear...more practice tomorrow! I thought my "paint the clown" idea at Eden's party was cool, and now it seems more Dad's are being the "stars"...it was Tom's idea to have all the kids throw water balloons at him at Rosie's 5th birthday party!
Little kids first before the big kids got a go...

Then all out on the lawn where he could throw them back!

Lachie a little bit wet, but being so cool about watching what he eats at parties now (and it helps when you're at a party where another kid at the party is the same!)

Now it's our turn to plan a couple of parties!

Finally it was Christmas

When deciding what to do, Lachie REALLY wanted to wake up in our own home so Santa could find us easily (after being in Wellington the last 2 years) but we also wanted to do the big family Christmas in Wellington, so we did both.
A walk to the Karori park for all the kids (probably to make the house a wee bit quieter for a while!) and a LOT of turns on the flying fox...
Ant was remembering how James let go on his first turn there, Eden knew better though!
Grand-da got a work out!
Waiting patiently...
And Lachie's Christmas cracker win (Boxing Day brunch) - hands up who's won one of these before!!!
Cooper's favourite trick, wedging himself!
Opening presents with Biddy - he'll be better next year Biddy!
But probably wont sit as still!

So when you work out what we're doing next year, let us know!

Carols in the Park

We spent most of the day in Dannevirke, visiting Fantasy Cave with Ron and Emily and some other friends, then tearing round the duck pond. And after such a busy few weeks the girls fell asleep on the way home and were in fine for form the carol singing! Lachie helped me make "Subway wraps" for our picnic dinner!
Eden started dancing as soon as the music started

Lachie dressed himself for the occasion

And Lily...was just Lily

Lachie trying to blow up a balloon...or his head!

We took the backpack, which we haven't used since the rugby season ended, so had by default, Magpie hats and pompoms...which didn't go to waste (neither did the can of lift+ I also found in the bottom of the bag!)

Cooper stayed awake til the last half an hour then slept solidly through the fireworks!
Santa arriving...

Thanks Aunty Cathie, great idea!

The Week Before...

Lachie's school prizeiving...getting his Year 2 awardLily is so into wearable art, and has spent a lot of time over the past few weeks designing clothes...here's her latest creation (will add the photo of the jeans with the t-shirt from her kindy blog). Sharon (a teacher) took it home to iron it ready for her to wear on Friday (not because I don't iron thank you, but because it was still wet on Wednesday when we were leaving!) On Friday morning she just wore a singlet to kindy in anticipation. Eden knew this was going on and got the skirt she wanted to wear to kindy out of the ironing pile and then said "it's ok, Sharon can take it home and iron it for me!". Gave Sharon a giggle too!Lily had her Playcentre party, with Rosie who turns 5 next week. Although this may look like Christmas cake decorating, it's actually (Lily decided) red for OngaOnga School, and green for Sherwood School (where Rosie's going)
Rosie and Lily getting sung to...and the mini butterfly cakes they decorated themselves
And the other week I taught pre-schoolers (and parents!) how to ice mini Christmas cakes with almond paste, then white icing then decorate...the kids loved it (and some parents too!)
Lily and Eden's efforts (Lily made one for Lachie too)
Lachie helped me make yummy chocolate truffles, which we promptly gave most away to Grandmalana and Grand-dad Tom and Claire and a very hungover Phillip! But kept a few each for us! Lachie can probably make them on his own now...if he doesn't eat all the mixture first! And speaking of cakes, here's the really quick one I did for our special lunch with Lily, Jimmy, Joan and John before they left (I cut it then decided to take the photo)
And the one I made for the kindy raffle...made in a day and iced the next day (no soaking fruit or letting layers harden...oppps!)

Christmas Cooper

Feeling quite clever with my idea to put the Christmas tree on a table, cellotaped to the table that is! I figured Cooper would get more and more mobile...he's just not going forward yet! He uses rolling, spinning and backwards crawling to get wherever he wants to go! Anywhere! And the decorations at the bottom of the tree were specially picked for this reason...
He's really good at getting up on his hands and knees, doing all the rocking, then lunging - sending himself backwards about half a foot at a time! He does tend to get a bit upset when he wedges himself under something...And this cold he's had (and Lily and me) is all dribble (thankfully not for Lily or me!)
Just waiting to see if we get chicken pox here after Georgie and Molly broke out yesterday...oh well, THAT may be our Christmas plan!

Dance Recital Night 2

Watching night for us at Lily and Eden's dance recital..."down on Grandpa's farm.." - spot the two small ones...they're mine!
And their own choreographed ballet dance - with Georgia, the assistant teacher after Julie broke her ankle in Glasgow earlier this year.
Bit of half time craziness, before sitting with us (in the front row again) to watch the second half
And then joining in with the "finale" - agian, spot the two tiny ones in the middle front...

So much fun, and next year we get to see Eden in the pre-school sections and Lily in the 5-year old sections!

Dance Recital

Eden and Lily both loved their first night of the dance recital. It was Eden's first time on stage. They both stayed right to the end so they could go in the finale. Lily even wanted to keep dancing after the curtain was closed and couldn't stop cuddling her teacher!
Ready to go "Down on Grand-dad's Farm"Their tutu's for their "own choreographed ballet"
Lily, backstage
Eden, backstage

And tonight we're going along to watch them, from the front row again...can't wait! Maybe a few sneaky (albeit probably blurry) photos too!
